New law to protect actors from AI clones

Dear Reader,

AI has gone wild.

California is doing something about it.

According to California lawmaker, Ash Kalra, actors, artists and entertainers need protection from generative AI.
Kalra argues that AI is a "real threat" to these works and should be banned.

Or a bargaining agreement is needed where informed consent is given for the use of digital replicates.

Kalra introduced Assembly Bill 459 as a "common sense requirement" in a world where the lines between digital and real keep blurring

The lawmaker's point is well taken when considering that entertainers — if not protected — could lose the right to the digital representation of themselves.

Which, of course, would impact their careers and ability to earn a living.

As expected, the proposed bill found favor with the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
The guild's national executive director said…

"We believe that our members must maintain full control over the use of their digital selves through informed consent, and this is key if they are to be able to build and sustain a career."

Although AI does pose threats to a lot of legacy industries…

In the financial world, AI is being used to find great trades.
