Brazil issues national on-chain digital ID

Dear Reader,

Looks like Brazil's "identity crisis" is over thanks to blockchain.

A national ID project is rolling out across the country's 26 states.
The plan is to make it easier for authorities to target organized crime.

While at the same time, allowing for more streamlined access to government data, services and records.

Under the new initiative, the country's 214 million citizens will have their identities digitally documented by November 6.

The first states to test the program — through a private blockchain developed by Serpro, Brazil's national data processing service — are Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, and Paraná

A recent government-issued statement noted that adopting an on-chain digital ID will also lead to more secure data exchange between the Federal Revenue and government departments.

The combination of a digital ID along with the country's imminent release of a central bank digital currency has many wondering.

Will privacy be a thing of the past?

We'll see.
